Biruk wants to buy a book for $15.25 and a book for $4.85. He wants to pay with one $20 bill. Use estimation to decide if this is reasonable. Explain to which place value you should round for an estimate that is useful in this situation.

first round 15.25 to 15.30 and round 4.85 to 4.90 and then add you get 21.20 no it is not reasonable and you round to the decimal ones

Biruk cannot afford both books with a $20 bill since the total cost is $20.10. Estimating to the nearest dollar gives a misleading impression of having just enough. The accurate calculation shows he is actually short by 10 cents.
