How is diffusion related to smelling the odor of a skunk that is far away?

Diffusion is the idea that when a solute enters an area with a lower concentration than the solute, it will mix into the area. So the skunk odor has a higher solute concentration then the atmosphere it's released into, so when it is released it will diffuse across a wider area in order to try and level out the level of concentration. This means it can be smelt from further away.

Diffusion is the process by which odor molecules spread from areas of high concentration to low concentration, allowing us to smell skunk odor even from a distance. When a skunk sprays, its odor molecules disperse through the air due to their random motion, eventually reaching our noses. The rate of diffusion can vary based on factors like temperature and particle size.
