Bicycles: An assembly line worker at Rob's Bicycle factory adds a seat to a bicycle at a rate of 2 seats in 11 minutes.

Write a proportion relating the number of seats \(s\) to the number of minutes \(m\).

At this rate, how long will it take to add 16 seats? 19 seats?

Answer (3)

2/11=16/x Cross Multiply 2x= 176 Solve for x. x=88 minutes.
2/11=19/x Cross Multiply 2x=209 Solve for x. X=104.5 minutes.

To add 16 seats, it will take 88 minutes. To add 19 seats, it will take 104.5 minutes. The relationship between the number of seats and time is given by the proportion m = 2 11 s .
