Is [tex]y = 9x + 3[/tex] proportional or non-proportional, and why?

Asked by alliballenger

Answer (3)

It is proportional , as y increases in line with x, and they have a linear relationship .
However, it is not directly proportional , as the '+3' shows that when x=0, y =/= 0, so it is not directly proportional.

It is proportional but not a direct proportion because you have an extra in your equation (+3)

The equation y = 9 x + 3 is non-proportional because it includes a constant term (+3), which means it does not pass through the origin. Therefore, while the relationship is linear, it is not directly proportional. This shows that when x = 0 , y also does not equal 0, confirming non-proportionality.
