The United States gained control of the former Spanish colonies by going to war with Spain over Cuba, or more specifically, Cuba's independence. Together with the filipino rebels, America won against Spain and gained control of multiple colonies including puerto rico, guam and the phillipines.

The US gained control of former Spanish colonies through the Spanish-American War, where Spain ceded territories such as Cuba and Puerto Rico. While some colonies gained independence, Puerto Rico and Guam remained US territories. The Monroe Doctrine also played a role in deterring European influence in the region.

The United States gained control of former Spanish colonies primarily through its victory in the Spanish-American War of 1898. As a result, Spain ceded its colonies, including Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines, and various Pacific islands. While Cuba and the Philippines eventually achieved independence, Puerto Rico and Guam remained U.S. territories. Additionally, the U.S. Vir_gin Islands were acquired from Denmark in 1918 to help protect strategic shipping lanes.
Throughout the early 19th century, the U.S. demonstrated support for independence movements in Latin America, reflected in its implementation of the Monroe Doctrine to deter European re-engagement in the Western Hemisphere. Spain's loss in the Spanish-American War furthered the U.S.'s territorial expansion and influence in the Caribbean and Pacific.

The United States gained control of former Spanish colonies mainly through the Spanish-American War in 1898, resulting in the annexation of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. Although Cuba was declared independent, U.S. influence persisted for decades. The Treaty of Paris officially ended the war and marked the shift in colonial power from Spain to the U.S.
