Some organisms, known as chemoautotrophs, can survive without sunlight by obtaining energy from inorganic substances through a process called chemosynthesis. These organisms live in extreme environments, such as deep-sea hydrothermal vents, where they convert chemicals into organic matter. Chemosynthesis supports unique ecosystems that demonstrate the adaptability of life on Earth.
