State legislative branches resemble the federal governments legislative branches in numerous ways. For example the state of Pennsylvania has both a House and Senate or bicameral legislature which mirrors the structure of the federal governments legislative branch. In addition there are states which follow procedural rules and seek to model their system off of the federal legislative system.
Legislative branch makes laws, Article 1: section 1. "All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." ;
State legislative branches and the federal government's legislative branch share a bicameral structure, similar functions in law-making and representation, and a system of checks and balances. Both operate within a framework designed to ensure that elected officials represent the interests of the citizens they serve. Procedurally, state legislatures often model their systems after those of Congress, reinforcing these similarities.
