There are many reasons that the U.S. decided to use the atomic bomb against Japan. One of these reasons was to save American lives, because another type of invasion would have led to a large loss of life. In addition the U.S. wanted to establish its dominance globally and in Asia to prevent further Soviet influence therefore, it could also be argued that the U.S. used atomic weapons with the goal of becoming a superpower as well.
