Scribes were vital in ancient Egypt, primarily due to their ability to read and write, which allowed them to record important information, preserve culture, and assist in governance. They underwent rigorous training and held significant social status, contributing extensively to the administration and continuity of Egyptian society. Their writings on materials like papyrus enabled the survival of many historical texts that inform our knowledge today.
