Colonial government began as royal colonies. They were under the direct control of King. These colonies included New Hampshire, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and eventually Massachusetts. Royal colonies turned into proprietary colonies. Colonial government in America developed through three main types: royal, proprietary, and corporate colonies. These systems established a structured government influenced by British models while allowing for varying degrees of local autonomy. This evolution played a crucial role in the push for independence and the development of democratic principles in the future United States.
