What is the charge of the nucleus of an oxygen atom?

It has a charge of -2. It has 8 protons and 10 electrons. Protons= positive, electrons= negative. 8 + -10=-2

The NUCLEUS has a neutral charge because the protons and neutrons are equal. The electrons may give the atom as a whole a negative charge of -2 because there are 2 more electrons than protons.

The charge of the nucleus of an oxygen atom is +8 due to the 8 protons it contains. In a neutral state, this positive charge is balanced by 8 electrons. If the oxygen atom becomes an ion, the nucleus's charge remains unchanged at +8, regardless of electron gain or loss.
