If the vector sum of all forces acting on an object is zero, then we say that the group of forces is balanced. When that's true, the object's acceleration is zero. That means the object continues moving at a constant speed, in a straight line.
When forces are balanced, the resulting acceleration is zero. This means the object will either stay at rest or move at a constant velocity in a straight line. Essentially, if the net force acting on an object is zero, then according to Newton's second law, acceleration will also be zero.
