The enthalpy of fusion also known as (latent) heat of fusion is the change in enthalpy resulting from heating a given quantity of a substance to change its state from a solid to a liquid. The temperature at which this occurs is the melting point.

The latent heat required for a solid to melt into liquid is called the Latent of Fusion. This latent heat does not increase the kinetic energy of the substance undergoing a state change and thus doesn't show its presence by increasing temperature.

The latent heat of fusion is the energy required to change a solid into a liquid at its melting point without changing temperature. For example, to melt 1 gram of ice at 0 °C into water requires 334 J of energy. This energy is absorbed during melting and released when the substance freezes.
